A career at the bar?
If you want to pursue a career at the bar you need to be aware it is a highly competitive career. Only 1 in 3 of those who complete the Bar Vocational Course go on to get tenancy. Bearing in mind all these people have at least 3 As at A level and 2.1 degree its really tough competition. So be prepared! If it is what you really want then here’s what you need to do… 1. Get experience · Mini pupillages · Inns of court dinners 2. Get involved Your CV needs to be full of things which show a passion for law and that you are a well rounded person · Mooting – if you want to be a barrister you have to do it. · Debating – great way to develop your verbal skills and learning to think on your feet · Pro bono · Sport – shows you can work with people and a work – life balance · Other societies – doesn’t matter where your passions lie whether its Rag or skydiving just make sure you take an active role. 3.
